She lived on the open prairie until she was 20 years old when she traveled by covered wagon to Indian Territory , Oklahoma. She met and married Henry McLish a half blood Chicasaw Indian.After having 5 children and several grandchildren she passed away in Oklahoma in 1921.This sampler is a tribute to her and is stiched as authentically as I could including the not so perfect border on the right hand side- much as a 10 year old would have stitched it. This primitive cross stitch pattern is perfect for Spring. It features a wonderful blue bird and a basket with a soft red flower. The pattern has the bottom of the basket closed with stitches.
The initials MB stand for Mariah Benson my 4 th great grandmother and the year 1816.
This primitive cross stitch pattern was stitched on linen but can easily be stitched on other fabrics.

had a lot of fun designing and stitching this tribute sampler to my great great gandmother Sarah Ellen Jones Dow. She was born in 1838 in Kentucky.
The sampler is not a complete alphabet to represent more accurately how a 10 year old would have made a sampler. There are a few motifs- including the ever popular bird motif!
It is stitched with dark gray, rusty brown and, dark teal blue threads.
The model was stitched on 14 count Aida but can easily be stitched on Osnaburg or linen. Approx. design size on 14 count fabric 4 1/2" wide x 6" high.

Stitched in a true red and then coffee dyed this tuck features a Fraktur style heart.
It is quick to stitch and only uses one color of floss!
The pattern is not symmetrical giving it an even more primitive, old look.
